Plans for the decant from Les Ozouets campus published
Tuesday, 05 April 2022
Education is now progressing plans to 'decant' staff and students from Les Ozouets ahead of the construction of the new Post-16 Campus on the site.
The intention is to relocate staff apart from those working in the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts, which will remain open throughout the construction work.
Other Les Ozouets residents such as SHARE (Sexual Health & Relationships), the Guernsey Music Service and the Youth Commission are also included in these decant plans.
The decant will see The Guernsey Institute College curriculum areas being temporarily redistributed across the remaining TGI campuses at Coutanchez and Delancey, with refurbishment works and upgrades being made to some of the outdated facilities on both of those sites to ensure that lecturers and other staff still have what they need to deliver firstclass education to their students.
Louise Misselke, Principal of The Guernsey Institute College, said:
"We have all been working hard with our staff to ensure that the temporary decant from Les Ozouets Campus is as seamless as possible. This is the first step for us toward our new purpose-built facility, and that is very exciting, but we would never be going ahead with this decant if we thought it would be to the detriment of our staff or our students. Thanks to the work planning the decant, I am confident that the quality of teaching being delivered by the College will be as good as ever despite these moves; the imminent refurbishment works at Coutanchez and Delancey will make sure our students are properly accommodated with the facilities they need to continue their studies."
College of Further Education curriculum areas will be moving campuses as follows:
Les Ozouets → Coutanchez
- Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
- Business and Finance
- Office Administration and Management
- Motor Sports
Les Ozouets → Delancey
- Sport
- Public Services
- Painting & Decorating
- Horticulture
Delancey → Coutanchez
- Health & Social Care
- Early Years
Other Les Ozouets residents will be moving into new facilities as below:
- Guernsey Music Service → Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre
- Youth Commission → Les Beaucamps High
- SHARE (Sexual Health & Relationship Education) → La Mare de Carteret High
Finally, Careers Guernsey and the Student Finance Team will be moving from Coutanchez to Sir Charles Frossard House.
Staff will continue to liaise with students and their parents/carers and employers to ensure they know exactly where they will be learning and when their moves will occur.
Jacki Hughes, Executive Principal of The Guernsey Institute, said:
"This is an extremely exciting time not only for the island's Education Sector, but also for the entire Bailiwick community. Our goal at The Guernsey Institute has always been to create an inclusive community centre for learning, and as we prepare to put the first spades in the ground, we are moving ever closer to achieving that. As we move from three College campuses to two, we move ever closer to the single post16 campus which we are aiming for. This decant will only be temporary, and the prize at the end of it is the brand-new, first-class facilities which we are all looking forward to."
